Hi! I'm Ananda. I started Right Beside You Coaching to help fellow survivors of childhood, generational and cultural trauma heal from their pasts and find hope for the future.

Trauma is more than just a distressing or disturbing event that occurred sometime in the past. It is also the imprint left on us by that experience. And it's far more widespread than we realize.

It's easy to recognize the damaging nature of acute events like natural disasters, accidents and war. But the damage caused by interpersonal experiences—like discrimination, chronic neglect, or emotional and physical abuse—can be even more harmful because it often goes unacknowledged and its aftereffects can last a lifetime.

Such trauma can profoundly impact our overall well-being long after the original experience. Coping mechanisms developed in difficult times could limit our potential in the present. Many of us become perfectionists, with loud, cruel inner critics and self-sabotaging tendencies. Overwhelmed by learned fear or helplessness, we might be easily triggered and struggle to control our reactions. Emotional numbness can make us feel disconnected from everything and everyone, even ourselves. And we might have no idea why we feel this way!

These are just a few of the many aftereffects of complex trauma. If any of this sounds familiar, please know that you are certainly not to blame for how you feel, because trauma is not something we can easily just 'get over'.

But it doesn't have to stay this way. Help is available and there is hope. Change awaits!
